چکیده

Abstract Abundant articulated specimens of the oryctocarine trilobite Oryctocarella duyunensis from lower Cambrian (Stage 4, Series 2) Balang Formation at Bulin section in western Hunan Province, South China, permit description all meraspid degrees. The maximum number thoracic segments observed this collection is 11. Meraspid growth was accompanied by progressive and gradual change overall form, animal showed an homonymously segmented trunk with variation pygidial during ontogeny. Such permits a variety plausible explanations, but model successive instars defined segments, suborder highly unlikely to explain pattern because it would result loss between some instars. Degree-based ontogenetic staging compatible observed.

Development and trunk segmentation of early instars of a ptychopariid trilobite from Cambrian Stage 5 of China

Many three-dimensionally preserved exoskeletons found from the middle Cambrian (Stage 5) Gaotai Formation in Guizhou, southern China, have been assigned to the ptychopariid trilobite Gunnia sp. They represent mainly a series of early instars, exhibiting some delicate structures and morphological variation associated with their trunk segmentation and early development. Morphometric and statistic...

Early Cambrian sipunculan worms from southwest China.

We report the discovery of sipunculan worms from the Lower Cambrian Maotianshan Shale, near Kunming (southwest China). Their sipunculan identity is evidenced by the general morphology of the animals (sausage-shaped body with a slender retractable introvert and a wider trunk) and by other features, both external (e.g. perioral crown of tentacles, and hooks, papillae and wrinkle rings on the body...

Modularity of a Cambrian ptychoparioid trilobite cranidium.

Modularity of the cranidium of Crassifimbra? metalaspis, a Cambrian ptychoparioid trilobite, is investigated using landmark-based geometric morphometric methods to gain insight into the integration among morphogenetic processes responsible for shaping the head of an ancient arthropod. Of particular interest is the extent to which the structure of phenotypic integration was governed by direct in...

The first tunicate from the Early Cambrian of South China.

Here we report the discovery of eight specimens of an Early Cambrian fossil tunicate Shankouclava near Kunming (South China). The tunicate identity of this organism is supported by the presence of a large and perforated branchial basket, a sac-like peri-pharyngeal atrium, an oral siphon with apparent oral tentacles at the basal end of the siphonal chamber, perhaps a dorsal atrial pore, and an e...
